Nigel Hall


I have been a Consultant Surgeon at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge since 1999. I won a Scholarship to Balliol College, Oxford where I was at medical school from 1979 to 1985. My medical training has been in Oxford, London, Yorkshire and the USA. I have worked in a number of District General Hospitals, Teaching Hospitals and Specialist units and have had a broad training in general surgery. I spent three years in research investigating hereditary colorectal cancer leading to a doctoral thesis. My final year of training was as a Clinical Fellow in the twin cities of Minneapolis and St Paul, Minnesota where I worked with one of the largest groups of colorectal surgeons in the world. 

I am the Lead Clinician for the Colorectal Cancer Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) at Addenbrooke's Hospital. I am the East Anglian Chapter representative of the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland (ACPGBI) and also sit on the national Council of the ACPGBI. 

I sit on a number of committees concerning trauma care, electronic patient records and reporting of abnormal results.

I am an active trainer of junior doctors and regularly teach on courses including Basic Surgical Skills, MRCS Course, CCrISP (Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patient).  I also host the colorectal day of the Cambridge Anastomosis workshop course.
